Position Description:
I am looking for 2 research assistants to work on a pilot project examining how the welfare and health of wild Barbary macaques varies across gradients of human exposure in Ifrane National Park, Morocco. The pilot project will run for three (3) months between June and August, during which you will have the opportunity to learn a range of techniques and protocols, including:
- Behaviour data collection
- Non-invasive hormone sample collection
- Non-invasive assays of cognition and positive welfare
- Previous field experience (not necessarily with primates) is desirable. Applicants should:
- Have a background and strong interest in primatology, behavioural ecology or related fields.
- Have a sound knowledge of behavioural (e.g. scan and focal sampling techniques) data collection methods.
- Be prepared for long days in the field in a challenging environment.
- Be open-minded and independent, prepared to adapt to living in a foreign culture, and able to work as part of a team.
- Being able to speak French/Arabic would be an advantage; being able to speak English is essential.
- A valid driving license that is accepted in Morocco (i.e., UK or EU) is essential.
Salary/funding:
This is a paid position, with money also allocated to pay for return flights to the field site (the budget anticipates flights from the UK, if flying from other, more expensive destinations, the applicants may have to supplement the travel budget).
