 **Postdoc fellowship position to study the human-macaque interface in Sulawesi, Indonesia**


The Department of Anthropology at San Diego State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow in primatology. This position is part of a NSF-funded project integrating anthropology and statistics to understand how primates adapt to risk and rewards in anthropogenic landscapes. The postdoc will work primarily with the PI, Dr. Erin Riley (SDSU), with extensive collaboration with co-PIs Dr. Henry Scharf (Statistics, University of Arizona), Dr. Amanda Ellwanger (Anthropology, Georgia State University- Perimeter College), and the PI’s Indonesian counterpart, Dr. Ngakan Putu Oka (Forestry, UNHAS). This is a one-year position with the possibility of an additional year of funding. The postdoc would primarily work at Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, focusing on behavioral, ecological, and spatial data collection related to macaque decision making and human-macaque interaction. In addition, the postdoc will help train and lead research assistants in data collection and have a role in the preparation and publication of peer-reviewed publications.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Anthropology, Biology/Zoology, or a related field and: 1) experience collecting behavioral data on free-ranging primates; 2) strong quantitative data analysis skills; 3) experience mentoring diverse students; 4) strong communication and leadership skills, including working as part of a diverse team; and 5) experience working in remote field conditions for extended periods of time.

PhD should be awarded before the start date. The salary range for this position is $5,373.33 - $6,000.00 per month depending on qualifications and is non-negotiable.
