Scientific project:
The overall aim of the project is to investigate the neuronal bases of emotional
behaviors in domestic chicks (Gallus
gallus domesticus). Specifically we are interested in the regulatory role
of chemosensory (olfactory/gustatory) stimulation and steroids of maternal
origin experienced during embryonic life on the neural bases of food neophobia.
Avian
species constitute a suitable model for studying maternal effects on the
ontogeny of behaviours. Indeed, the content of avian eggs is more easily
controllable than that of a uterine environment. In addition, numerous tools
are available to investigate the neurobiology of behaviors in the chicken
model.
Required skills:
Candidates should possess a first class PhD in behavioural neurosciences,
neurobiology or neuroanatomy. Established expertise in brain immunochemistry,
confocal microscopy is mandatory. Experience in immunochemistry and basic
skills in molecular biology (RT-PCR) specifically in bird brains will be
appreciated.
Applications consisting of a cover letter indicating
personal research goals and curriculum vitae with a list of publications should
be sent as pdf file. This should also include a brief summary of previous
research projects and techniques, together with a list and letter of recommendation
of two referees. A good level in spoken and written English is also required.
Environment
The host laboratory is part of the “Physiology of
Reproduction and Behaviors” unit of INRA. This unit
is associated with CNRS/Université F. Rabelais and is located
at 20 kms north of Tours .
This research unit has a world-renown expertise in chemosensory, hormonal and
neurobiological regulation of behaviour. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with researchers and
technicians with strong expertise on emotional, social and feeding behaviors
and their neurobiological substrates in birds and mammals. She/He will have access to state of the art equipment
and facilities necessary to run the project. For an overview of recent work of
partners involved in this project please have a look on scientific profiles of Aline
Bertin, Ludovic Calandreau or Pascal Vaudin on ResearchGate
The position is funded by the French National Research
Agency (ANR).
