The California National Primate Research Center, CNPRC at UC Davis, is an Organized Research Unit that conducts interdisciplinary research programs on significant human health problems where non-human primates is the animal of choice. In addition to its major efforts in the area of research, the CNPRC is also committed to both UC Davis and NIH missions of teaching and service.
Job Summary
Under general direction, serve as the Public Information Officer with responsibility for managing internal and external communications and outreach that represent the mission, interests, values, and research activities of the California National Primate Research Center. Respond to requests for information from UC Davis, NIH and the media or designate another appropriate spokesperson or information source. Provide strategic advice and consultation to CNPRC Management, academic leadership and faculty in the planning, coordinating and implementing communications strategies, outreach, media relations, audience analysis and message development. Devise marketing strategies to showcase CNPRC programs and research and core services to the academic research community and to the community at large. Prepare and/or edit organizational publications for internal and external audiences. Provide project management support for assigned projects including managing online content and web design and development for CNPRC external and internal websites; produce text content and photographs; and monitor online information requests about CNPRC programs and services and redirect requests to the appropriate CNPRC Unit.
Implement, maintain and execute the scientific public presence supporting a variety of national scientific multidisciplinary research activities and relevant issues that affect a large scale federally funded biomedical animal research organization. Provide support to the administration and scientific programs in managing the full range of public information and outreach programs designed to reach a variety of targeted audiences promoting awareness of CNPRC resources and services available to the research community. Function as liaison to NIH/ORIP, seven NPRCs and Strategic Communications regarding all public information activities.
Coordinate press releases, public information requests and other center related scientific information in accordance with legal and regulatory standards and UC policy, and UC Davis media policy. Provide professional and scientific writing, photography, editing, and illustrative support to faculty representing a group of specialized research disciplines for grant proposals, publications, reports, posters, and other forms of scientific outreach. Manage the Education Outreach Program and community relations activities, presenting/promoting the CNPRC's mission and purpose to local, regional, and national stakeholders in biomedical research and animal science.
