Description du stage :
Le projet FeliCog, démarré en 2023 s’intéresse au vieillissement chez le chat domestique, un animal
encore peu étudié sur ce sujet malgré une population grandissante en France et qui présente des
particularités par rapport à l’espèce canine. Ce stage propose à un ou des stagiaires en éthologie ou
en césure de participer à ce projet, notamment sur le volet cognitif.
Le stage comportera plusieurs activités (à adapter en fonction de la durée du stage et de l’intérêt de
l’étudiant).
• Analyse de vidéos de tests déjà réalisés à l’aide du logiciel BORIS
• Recrutement de chats âgés
• Réaliser des tests de cognition avec des chats âgés (deux périodes de test – Mars et Mai –
Les chats sont testés deux fois)
• Analyse de leur profil d’activité quotidien et analyse du microbiote fécal
Profil recherché :
Étudiant(e) en éthologie, écologie comportementale, biologie– Avoir déjà connaissance d’un logiciel
d’analyse de vidéo (BORIS) et connaissances de base en R
Capacité d’autonomie, rigueur et organisation dans le travail. -Curiosité et motivé pour apprendre–
Être à l’aise avec des chats et des propriétaires – Avoir le permis est un plus

The LuiKotale Bonobo Project (LKBP) is looking for research assistants for the collection of long-term data. Duties include: (i) nest-to-nest follows of habituated bonobos; (ii) collection of behavioral data from focal individuals, and (iii) collection of biological samples. The field site is located in the buffer zone of Salonga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Working conditions are physically and mentally challenging, the forest is often dense and swampy and assistants are sometimes exposed to severe weather and tropical diseases. The research camp is remote and has no running water, electricity, phone coverage, or internet access. Daily communication is limited to short emails sent via a short wave radio system. Assistants live in tents and mostly eat local foods (e.g., beans, manioc and rice). Please carefully consider whether you will able to cope with these conditions for an extended period of time before applying for this position.

Candidates will express an interest in primate behavior and forest ecology, and demonstrate strong organizational skills. Due to the challenging physical and social environment at LuiKotale, candidates must be (a) physically fit; (b) resistant to psychological stress; (c) self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision; and (d) tolerant of different social customs and beliefs. Good social skills and the willingness to work as part of a team are essential. Previous experience using Microsoft Excel and navigating with a compass and GPS unit are assets, but not required. Please note that the LKBP adheres strictly to gender equality and will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment.

 

Salary/Funding:

300 Euro/month during the months of training and - 500 Euro/month thereafter

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
- food (mix of mainly local food and some western food items)
- lodging (in tents) at the field site
- airfare for one domestic flight from Kinshasa to the field site and back
- expenses for long-term visa
- contribution to an international return flight of up to 800 Euro*

*reimbursement ONLY AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE APPOINTMENT

Please note that people joining the research team in the field are required to have a health insurance that covers expenses for evacuation by charter plane in a case of emergency. Expenses for the health insurance and costs for the stay in Kinshasa on the way in and out cannot be covered by the project.

Je recherche un stagiaire M1 avec des connaissances en bioacoustique, détection automatique et analyse des données. Le stage rémunéré aura lieu à Saint-Etienne sur trois mois dans l’équipe ENES (CRNL, CNRS, INSERM, Université de Saint-Etienne).

 

Objectif

Le travail va consister à analyser des enregistrements acoustiques recueillis au Mexique concernant l’activité de poissons cavernicoles (Astyanax mexicanus) dans plusieurs grottes sur plusieurs mois.

L’objectif est de définir l’activité acoustique : y a t il des régularités temporelles à l’intérieur des séries chronologiques ? Les bandes son aériennes (chauve-souris cavernicoles) et subaquatiques (A. mexicanus principalement) sont elles corrélées ? Y a t il des différences suivant les grottes ?
Plusieurs logiciels existant ou à développer seront utilisés (SoundScape Explorer, périodogramme sur R…).

Thème : Planification de l’action chez les bébés au cours de la seconde année de vie
Période de stage à définir entre janvier et juillet 2025 inclus.
La capacité de planifier ses actions au sein d’une séquence motrice semble se développer entre
18 et 24 mois chez les bébés (ex., Jovanovic & Schwarzer, 2011 ; Örnkloo & von Hofsten, 2006).
Cependant, la plupart des études se sont concentrées sur des actions relativement complexes,
comme l'utilisation d'outils (ex., Claxton, McCarty & Keen, 2009) ou l'insertion d'objets avec des
formes géométriques complexes (par ex., Shutts, Örnkloo, von Hofsten, Keen & Spelke, 2009).
Dans une étude impliquant une tâche d'insertion d'objet relativement simple, nous cherchons à
analyser la capacité de planification motrice des bébés en fonction de la difficulté de la tâche. Pour
cela, nous avons fait varier les niveaux de précision d’une part, et l’orientation du but de l’action
d’autre part - sans pour autant varier la nature de la tâche. Cette étude implique à la fois une
analyse comportementale détaillée des bébés à l’aide d’un éthogramme prédéfini, ainsi qu’une
analyse automatisée des mouvements à l’aide d’un système de capture de mouvement 3D
(Qualysis).
Nature de la mission :
L’ensemble des données est déjà récolté. Le stage portera sur l’analyse détaillée des
comportements des bébés à l’aide d’un éthogramme prédéfini, sur le logiciel Datavyu. L’étudiant
devra se familiariser et prendre en main ce logiciel, et analyser les données comportementales sur
la base des vidéos. Des analyses statistiques sur R Studio pourront être envisagées en fonction
de la durée du stage.
Profils recherchés : étudiant.e en L2, L3, M1 ou césure avec statut étudiant, en psychologie,
éthologie, biologie du comportement, neurosciences, sciences cognitives ou autre cursus adapté.
Une expérience avec le codage video sur éthogramme (The Observer, BORIS, ELAN, Datavuy…)
est un plus. La maîtrise du français n’est pas nécessaire (anglais possible).

Internship Title: Child-Donkey Interactions: What Behaviors Are Displayed by Children?

Internship Summary:
The student will focus on analyzing pre-recorded videos of child-donkey interactions using The Observer (Noldus) software. The goal is to understand the behaviors expressed by children in interaction with donkeys.

Context:
Based in the Animal Physiology and Behaviour Reseach Unit in Italy, this project is a collaborative project between the Italian laboratory and the Ethos laboratory in France. Virtual meetings with the French team and on-site meetings with the Italian team will be organized. Currently, no financial support is available for the student. Funding requests are in progress.

Required Skills:

• Interest in ethological research.
• Strong writing and statistical analysis skills.
• Good level of English.
• Experience with The Observer software is a plus.

Working Conditions:

• 35 hours per week.

Fully Funded 4-year MRes + PhD position at School of Natural Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney Australia

 

Project: Navigational strategies of Jumping Spiders

 

We have a fully funded International 4-year Master of Research + PhD position available to study visual navigation in jumping spiders. The position starts in mid-2025.

 

The overarching aim of the project is to study 1) the traits of jumping spiders, 2) the navigational challenges and decisions animals make and 3) the necessary visual and neural adaptations. Based on your interest and skills, we will work together to identify one of the three above aspects for the 4-year program. Candidate will be based at Macquarie University, Sydney. There will be opportunities to carry out fieldwork across Australia, film and analyse behaviours and learn a suite of microscopy techniques.

 

Candidates with demonstrable skills and interest in behaviour of jumping spiders, and analytical skills are preferred. 

 

The project will be supervised by Associate Professor Ajay Narendra, Professor Mariella Herberstein, Professor Ximena Nelson and Professor Dinesh Rao.
