Position Description:
PhD position in Conservation Biology/Biodiversity
As part of a collaboration with The Natural History Museum, Trento, the German Primate Center (Reproductive Biology Unit) offers a PhD position for a project to examine the effects of habitat fragmentation and human disturbance on Udzungwa red colobus in Tanzania. The project integrates ecological, genetic and physiological approaches and will include field data collection at the Udzungwa Ecological Monitoring Centre followed by laboratory and data analysis in Goettingen/Trento. The position will be linked to the Primate Biodiversity Network of the German Primate Center and the Biodiversity study program at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen.
Qualifications/Experience:
Candidates should have a Bachelors/Diploma or Masters in biology or biodiversity and field experience, preferably in a tropical climate. Excellent communication and organizational skills, a high level of self-reliance, ability to work under demanding condition and a keen interest in primate ecology/conservation biology are expected.
Salary/funding:
Funds to support a stipend and research costs are available till June 2013.
Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Support for travel and food and lodging in the field is available.
