Post-doc/PhD positions in visual neuroscience at RIKEN Brain Science Institute

Post-doctoral and PhD student positions are available to work with Justin Gardner at the Lab for Human Systems Neuroscience, RIKEN Brain Science Institute, just outside Tokyo, Japan. Our lab aims to understand human visual perception and decision-making (see our lab webpage for more details: http://gru.brain.riken.jp). The work will combine fMRI brain imaging, psychophysics, state-of-the-art analysis methods (e.g. from machine learning) and computational modeling. Topics include: visual perception, attention, decision-making, motion processing, topography, decoding and reconstruction.

RIKEN Brain Science Institute is Japan’s premiere neuroscience research facility with international faculty and staff in 50 labs covering areas of research spanning molecules to circuits to systems. Our lab is well-equipped, supported by substantial intramural funding with a 4T MRI scanner and support staff. All activity at the institute is conducted in English (Japanese language courses and training are available). Our lab engages in regular international interactions through collaborations and travel to international conferences.

Candidates should have a strong background in neuroscience, bioengineering, or a related field. Programming skills (e.g. Matlab) are essential and experience with brain imaging, psychophysics or physiology is desirable. PhD student positions are made through the University of Tokyo. Informal inquiries should be directed to Justin Gardner: gru [ à ] brain.riken.jp. Applications should include a brief statement of research interests, CV and the names of 3 references.
