At the University of Vienna (15 faculties, 3 centres, about 188 fields

following position is vacant.
University Assistant (“post doc”) at the Department of Cognitive Biology
This 5-year position is announced by Prof. Dr. Sonia Kleindorfer and shall intensify the cooperation between the Departments of Cognitive Biology and Behavioural Biology at the Konrad Lorenz Research Station Grünau.
We search for a researcher with expertise in bioacoustics and a sincere interest in studying animals in their natural environments, notably ravens and greylag geese, but also Darwin’s finches on the Galapagos Islands. The candidate would be encouraged to design a research program on aspects of avian ontogeny including vocal and/or cognitive development from egg to adult. The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Konrad Lorenz Research Station, Grünau im Almtal, Austria with opportunity to use aviaries and facilities (e.g. MRI, X-ray) in Vienna for aspects of experimental research. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in field work, bioacoustics, and avian ontogeny.
Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week. Occupation group in accordance with collective bargaining agreement §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc). On top of this, relevant chargeable work experience determines the assessment to a particular salary grade.
Areas of work:
The successful candidate is expected to design, procure and direct research projects and publish results in peer- reviewed journals. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to collaborate and support already ongoing projects in our teams and participate in student supervision, teaching and research administration in accordance with the provision of the collective agreement.
Profile:
• PhD in the field of Biology, Psychology, or related disciplines
• Experience in conducting research projects on animal communication and/or avian development
• Experience recording and analysing avian vocalisations (proficiency with Raven and Amadeus Pro)
• Willingness to assume the responsibility of team leadership
• Documented publication activity in peer-reviewed journals
• Excellent command of written and verbal English language
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have
• Experience in field work
• Organizational and communication skills
• Experience in acquiring third-party funding
• Experience in university teaching, and in the co-supervision of students
• Hands-on mentality
