Research assistant position (technician, or potentially post-doc) at Wellesley College

I’m looking for a full-time Research Assistant (technician / lab manager; interested post-docs are also invited to apply in which case we could convert the position) for my lab in the Neuroscience Program at Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA (12 miles south of Boston). The position provides an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate to get research experience and hone leadership skills by working with a team of undergraduate research assistants. The successful candidate will be required to work independently with a high level of responsibility, as there is no graduate program at Wellesley College.

My lab is using songbirds as a model system to study the mechanisms of vocal learning & memory. Recently, my lab has launched projects to study the plasticity that accompanies learning a song from a second tutor during the song-learning period, combining immunocytochemistry with behavior and novel imaging techniques.  The start-date for this position is March 1st.  A bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology or related science or engineering field is required.  Laboratory experience is preferred.  Familiarity with Matlab, programming, or engineering experience would be a plus.  Responsibilities include conducting neuroscience experiments under my supervision (histology, microscopy, cell/molecular techniques, fMRI, bird handling, surgery, etc), assisting students in their research, maintenance of lab stocks and reagents, data analysis and lab management.  This position provides excellent benefits, including health and retirement.

If you know of an interested, qualified and motivated candidate, please have them apply by submitting a cover letter, college transcripts and a resume with contact info of three references at
