Post-Doctoral Associate

Appointment: Full-time, 12 month, preferred start date July 1, 2014
Department: UMN CVM Veterinary Population Medicine 
Campus: Twin Cities 

Preferred Qualifications: 
The successful candidate holds a DVM or PhD in veterinary medicine, animal science or a related field. The candidate has demonstrated an interest and experience in the dairy industry, ideally with an interest in animal welfare, food safety and/or milk quality. The candidate has excellent communication skills, is highly motivated and has the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Interest or experience in multimedia design and production (video, audio, print), and Spanish language proficiency would be strong positives. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 
Responsibilities include participating in the design and implementation of a pilot project to build a quality assurance program for MN dairy producers focusing on food safety, milk quality and animal welfare. The duties will include: 
• Assisting in the development and on-farm testing of an assessment tool to identify farm-specific risk factors in food safety, milk quality and animal welfare 
• Develop and test a structured team-based improvement and implementation plan for use on farms. 
• Create and/or catalog educational and training resources for use by farm teams, including videos, printable handouts, record-keeping guides and templates (to be accessible on the web) 
• Participate in training of personnel and implementation of quality assurance measures on dairy farms. 
• Design of evaluation measures (survey and other) to assess pilot project outcomes; conduct evaluations and summarize results
