Position Description:
I am looking for a field assistant for the end of May through mid August. My research is on feeding ecology and life history strategies of white-faced capuchin monkeys at The Pacuare Nature Reserve located on the Carribean coast of Costa Rica. The job would involve taking data on 3 groups of habituated monkeys and their ecology. A typical day starts at 5 am and ends around 5 pm. I am collecting data on foraging behavior using a handheld computer and behavioral observation software, plant phenology, diet composition, and body weights. I am looking for someone to help me with all of these things.
Qualifications/Experience:
The reserve is located in a tropical wet forest so applicants must be good with dealing with environmental conditions that include LOTS of rain, heat, mold, fungus, mosquitoes, and snakes. The job also involves a fair amount of walking and long days. The reserve is in a somewhat remote location with no hot water, electricity (except from solar panels), or stores.
Salary/funding:
none except room and board.
Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
room and board will be paid for.
