A fiscal year (11-month) Assistant
Small-to-Industry-Scale Poultry Specialist in Cooperative Extension (CE)
position is being recruited to be located in the Department of Animal Science
in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of
California, Davis. This Specialist will provide statewide research and
extension leadership in poultry management with a program that addresses the
current and future high-priority State needs to improve poultry productivity
and well-being in small, mid- and large scale production systems. Broadly, the
management areas may include production (growth or reproduction), behavior,
genetics, health, housing density, disease transmission, or nutrition. The
Specialist in a leadership role will coordinate efforts among University
colleagues, agricultural industries, consumers, youth, policy makers,
environmental agencies, and other public entities in the area of poultry
management. The Specialist will keep campus and county based UC Cooperative
Extension (UCCE) colleagues and clientele apprised of emerging issues and
research findings, while working with them to conduct applied research and
develop applications of research knowledge to specific poultry management
problems. The Specialist will provide educational leadership and technical
information support for county based CE academics and clientele relevant to
maintaining the sustainability and viability of California poultry meat and egg
production. This position will support relevant UC Division of Agriculture and
Natural Resources strategic initiatives and program teams (http://ucanr.edu/About_ANR/). This
Specialist is expected to develop a nationally-recognized research and
extension program, secure extramural funding, and publish research results in
appropriate refereed journals and extension publications. The appointee will
have the opportunity to interaction and mentor graduate students and have
access to wide-ranging animal and infrastructure resources and many
collaborative opportunities within the department and college as well as UCCE
colleagues in the School of Veterinary Medicine and across the state.
Requirements include: a Ph.D. or equivalent in an animal science discipline
with research experience with poultry.
