Funding is available for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), graduate student project at the University of Kassel/Witzenhausen, Germany. The
PhD student position
- salary based on tariff part 13 TV-L (50%) -
is funded by
the Federal state of Hessen for the duration of 2.5 years and is part of the collaborative
project “Animals-Humans-Society” including researchers from various disciplines
such as ethology, animal breeding, philosophy, fine arts, and history. The position
is to be filled as soon as possible.
The
PhD-position is available in the project part “award-winning cattle,
award-winning farmers”
Qualifications: The
successful candidate will have a MSc degree in animal science, veterinary medicine,
physiology, or related biological sciences, preferably with a focus on
quantitative genetics and/or animal behaviour. The successful candidate should have
demonstrated strong academic performance and have strong verbal and written
communication skills. A primary responsibility will be to analyse data from livestock,
and in particular, dairy cattle shows at the phenotypic and genetic level, but
may also include more interdisciplinary work such as the analysis of
photographs of and texts about award-winning cattle and their breeders. Therefore,
the willingness to work with a highly interdisciplinary team, experience with genetic-statistical
analysis methods, and with the dairy and/or beef industry in general, is
strongly recommended. Although it would be considered an asset, proficiency in
German language is not an essential requirement.
