Dr. Anastasia Stellato and Dr. Nathaniel Hall, in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University, are currently seeking a PhD student, with expected start date Fall 2022.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The successful applicant will join a research project to assess the influence of enrichment (e.g., toys) on the behavior and welfare of domestic dogs. General responsibilities will include: organizing, coordinating and conducting experiments, coordinating with dog owners/shelters, supervising research assistants, data collection and management, data analyses, and manuscript writing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to supervise and mentor research assistants
- Ability to organize and coordinate research projects
- Knowledge and skills working with Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge and skills working with statistical programs, such as STATA, SAS, or R.
PREFERRED QULIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in animal science, animal welfare, applied ethology, animal biology, or related field
- Interest and experience working with dogs (e.g., handling experience)
- Interest and/or experience in animal welfare science
- Experience coding behavior (e.g., using Noldus Observer software) from video recordings (considered an asset, but not required)
