Job Description – Chimpanzee Conservation Center (CCC) Coordinator

 

Location

The position is based in Faranah (small town), with regular travel to CCC sites (Somoria and Bakaria), as well as to community projects and Conakry as required by the project.

General Mission

The CCC Coordinator is in charge of coordinating the CCC's activities (sanctuary and the various operational and conservation components of the project). He/she works closely with the managers responsible for the various CCC activities (sanctuary, conservation, awareness, community projects, biomonitoring), in order to ensure synergy between the teams and effective cross-functional communication. This position is a support position for the managers in charge of the CCC's activities and the founder.

He/she is the direct link between the operational teams and the CCC management, represented by the founder. He/she also has a key role in monitoring funding, reporting and relations with donors in collaboration with partners, in particular for the Natura-Guinea project led by WCF and other institutional partners, in particular at the regional and prefectural level, or even national at the request of management. He/she will be required to participate in compensation meetings with mining companies and institutional meetings where he/she will have to defend the conservation of chimpanzees in the PNHN and the CCC. He/she will be able to present his/her activities to the various CAs, at their request.

Main Responsibilities Coordination and Transversality

  • Facilitate communication and synergy between the different components of the project (sanctuary, conservation, awareness, community projects).

  • Organize and coordinate the activity of the Faranah office team (caretaker, housekeeper, logistician, etc.) in collaboration with the managers.

  • Supervise and support the Quickbooks Manager and Accountant.

  • Ensure cross-functional monitoring of activities to ensure their proper implementation.

  • Support managers in planning and executing their activities.

  • Ensure arrival and departure logistics as well as the validity of documents and visas for volunteers, researchers and visitors.

  • Coordinate, facilitate and liaise for chimpanzee rescue missions in conjunction with specialist teams (veterinarian, chimpanzee manager) and with PNHN authorities.

  • Manage vehicle repairs during the week and assist with refueling runs.

  • Manage the CCC house and office in Faranah.

  • Provide support for all administrative and financial activities necessary for the smooth running of CCC activities.

Logistics and Administrative Management

  • Oversee supplies for sanctuary teams and animals in the absence of the operations manager.

  • Organize calls for tenders and the selection of companies with the founder and the operational manager. Support the operational manager for the planning and monitoring of constructions.

  • Follow up on current files and monitor the obtaining of all necessary authorizations from the PNHN and the authorities.

  • Manage the logistics and maintenance of CCC equipment and infrastructure (vehicles, technical equipment, etc.) as well as ensuring compliance of vehicles and motorcycles (insurance, sticker, registration, etc.).

  • Monitor administrative formalities for staff in conjunction with the Guinean authorities (contracts, social security contributions, insurance renewals, etc.) and following on NGO formality with the founder.

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Manage the CCC's daily budgets in collaboration with the accountant and managers.

  • Track funds spent and provide regular reporting to the founder and financial partners.

  • Draft financial and narrative reports for donors and international partners to transfer to the founder.

  • Ensure compliance of funding received, particularly for WCF and other support organizations.

  • Report weekly on actions under his/her responsibility and write monthly activity reports under the responsibility and compile information for WCF reports as well as for donors.

  • Work closely with the QuickBooks Manager and the Accountant to ensure the monitoring and sound and transparent financial management of the CCC.

Representativeness and HR Management

  • Proudly represent the CCC and respect the dress codes in force in Guinea.

  • To be in contact with the founder and to be a driving force in the defense of the chimpanzees of West Africa and the Upper Niger National Park.

  • Be able to replace colleagues in the event of absence or incapacity.

  • Participate in certain recruitments and in the training of new recruits and volunteers with fellow managers.

  • Ensure appropriate crisis management and guarantee the safety of the project (chimpanzees and personnel).

CCC Development and Infrastructure

  • Work closely with the founder and managers for all infrastructure construction and maintenance projects.

  • Ensure the monitoring of purchases and transport of equipment on site.

  • Contribute to the search for funding for development projects.

  • Propose improvements to the layout of the sanctuary and chimpanzee habitats.

Job Conditions

  • One-year contract, renewable, with a 3-month trial period.

  • Minimum capped at $1,500 per month, possibility of upward negotiation depending on experience.

  • Coverage of transportation, accommodation and food costs within the framework of missions according to the scale established by the CCC.

  • Medical insurance up to $1,000 per year

  • Refundable flight ticket at the end of the trial period, if successful.

  • 8 weeks of vacation per year with return airfare to the home country.



Profile Wanted

  • Degree in project management, conservation, protected area management, or any other relevant field.

  • At least 5 years of experience in project management and coordination of multicultural teams.

  • Experience in a conservation project in West Africa desired.

  • Very good interpersonal skills and presentation

  • Knowledge and application of accident analysis using the cause tree method, a plus.

  • Strong skills in administrative, budgetary and logistical management.

  • Ability to produce narrative and financial reports for authorities, partners and donors.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in basic computer tools (Word, Excel).

  • Perfect command of French, English appreciated.

  • Ability to adapt to an isolated environment and demanding working conditions.

  • Desired start date early April 2025
