Position Description:
The Comparative Communication Laboratory at the
Pennsylvania State University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to start in
the Fall semester of 2012 (actual start date is negotiable, though August is
preferred). The lab conducts non-invasive behavioral research with cotton-top
tamarin monkeys as well as with human participants. The researcher will
participate in conducting studies of comparative cognition, particularly those
related to statistical learning and language acquisition (as well as
opportunities to conduct research in social and motor cognition). It is
expected that the postdoc will assist in publishing studies on these topics.
The postdoc will also function in a lab manager capacity, and duties include
managing undergraduate research assistants, interfacing with the staff of
caretakers, and helping maintain the tamarin colony.
Qualifications/Experience:
The successful applicant will have experience in
conducting behavioral research with nonhumans, as well as maintaining an
interest in one or more of the following areas: comparative cognition, language
acquisition, statistical learning, and motor planning. A PhD is required in
Psychology, Biological Anthropology, Biology, or a related field. The salary
for this position is 35k and includes health benefits. The initial appointment
will be for one year, with a strong possibility of renewal for the next year
(and a maximum total of four years). The search is open to all eligible
