Position Description:
A systems neuroscience laboratory that studies the function of the primate visual system seeks a Research Assistant. The Research Assistant independently performs and coordinates a wide range of research procedures and conducts a variety of support tasks, with periodic review by supervisor. A primary responsibility will be managing a group of non-human primate subjects for behavioral and physiological experiments. Will also perform general laboratory supervision; maintenance and inventory of supplies and reagents; preparation for and assistance with surgical procedures. Interacts with other laboratory personnel working on projects involving behavior, physiology and reversible inactivation of brain regions in alert, non-human primates; also will interact intensively with veterinary and animal care staff on issues relating to animal health and well-being. Will also work independently in the design and construction of lab apparatus for experiments described above. Will be involved in training incoming students and other support personnel. Possibility of developing independent research projects in collaboration with other members of the laboratory.

Qualifications/Experience:
College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in biology, engineering, or a related discipline. One to two years related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).Bachelor's degree preferred. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively with laboratory, animal care, and administrative staff at all levels. Strong organizational skills are highly desired as is relevant experience in some or all of the following areas: handling and training non-human subjects, surgical preparation and assistance.

Term of Appointment:
This is a 12-month term position with possibility of renewal contingent on available funding and work performance.
