Job Vacancy - Part Time Sub Editor
The Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (www.ufaw.org.uk)
is a highly respected charity, based in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire,
promoting advances in animal welfare through science and education
internationally. An exciting opportunity to assist the Chief Executive
and other scientific staff with the production of the “UFAW Handbook on
the Care and Management of Animals used in Research”, and other books or
other publication edited or produced by UFAW to assist in reviewing
submissions to the Journal Animal Welfare.
The
successful applicant for this post will have an understanding of the
scientific process and experience in research and writing or editing
scientific papers, articles or books in the biological or veterinary
sciences. The person is therefore likely to possess a veterinary degree
or higher research degree (eg PhD in biological sciences), and/or some
relevant post-doctoral or graduate experience. Key characteristics are,
an understanding of animal welfare science; Good writing, editing and
communication skills are essential; preferably experience of reviewing
and/or editing scientific papers; attention to detail; an understanding
of reputational and libel risks; and an ability to deal sensitively when
dealing with authors.
This is a 3 year contract for 2 days a week. Additional hours may be required as agreed. Some home-working may be possible.
Salary
£27,285 - £28,936 plus London allowance (£2,134) pro-rata according to
