Position Description:
The Ostner/Schülke Lab or Primate Social Evolution Group of the German Primate Center and the Behavioral Ecology Department of the University of Goettingen run the field project on wild Assamese macaques at Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary in Thailand where we have been studying social behavior and reproductive strategies of wild Assamese macaques since 2006. To help with the data collection for the long-term data base, we are looking for two highly motivated field assistants for 12 months, starting May 1st, 2020, to join our fabulous field team.

Tasks include:
Collect behavioral data using focal animal observations and first data processing in camp
Collect fecal and urine samples for genetic and physiological analysis
Preprocess samples in our field lab
Work closely with current PhD students, other RAs and six longterm Thai assistants
Contribute to the running of the project

Qualifications/Experience:
Required Skills for the field assistant work:

Happy to live and work under harsh conditions
Able to cope with long days in the heat or rain
Comfortable in a forest with potentially dangerous animals incl. snakes and bears
Field experience / experience with observing animals
Good intercultural communication skills
Team spirit
Clean Driver?s license

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
After successful completion of 6 months of work, we pay for travel. Lodging is free and we pay a small allowance of 400 Euros per month.

Research manager and staff supervisor for a continuing chimpanzee project in western Uganda. Site manager responsible for daily collection of project data, including ranging, diet, nesting behavior and climatology data. Supervise camp manager, research assistant and three other staff. Qualifications/Experience:
Primate field school completion or previous field work required. University classes in primate behavior, primate ecology, and basic biology required; minimum 3.5 GPA. Familiarity with chimpanzee socioecology required and assumed.

Two volunteer positions for Guinea Baboon Research in Senegal

Position Description:
The Cognitive Ethology Lab of the German Primate Center runs the research station CRP Simenti in the Niokolo Koba National Park in Senegal where we study the social behavior of Guinea baboons. We are looking for two volunteers to help with the data collection for at least 14 months, starting mid-February 2020. Note that we have at least one but perhaps two PhD positions opening mid 2021, and successful volunteers are prime candidates.

Tasks
- Take census data and behavioral observations
- Work closely with current PhD students
- Collect fecal samples for genetic and hormonal analysis

- Contribute to the running of the project

The DFG Research Training Group RTG 2070 'Understanding Social Relationships' (Speaker: Prof. Julia Fischer) at the Georg‐August-­University Goettingen and the German Primate Center Goettingen is looking for a highly motivated
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d). The RTG brings together behavioral and cognitive biologists, psychologists and linguists with a joint interest in the interdisciplinary investigation of human and nonhuman primate social relationships. PhD students and a associated postdoctoral researchers investigate social signaling, social monitoring, and social coordination in humans and nonhuman primates. The position holder is expected to contribute to this research by developing and refining analytical approaches in the analysis of social relationship data, including long‐term data from free‐ranging nonhuman primates, as well as short term interaction data from humans and nonhuman primates. The candidate will be affiliated with the Cognitive Ethology Laboratory at the German Primate Center, Goettingen.

Qualifications/Experience:

- Experience in the quantitative analyses of behavioral data with expertise in (at least some of) these techniques: Elo-­rating, dynamic social network analyses, stochastic actor-­oriented models (SOAMs), and Bayesian modeling
- Good writing and communication skills (English)
- Teaching and supervision skills of Master and PhD fellows is an advantage

Primates Inc. a non-profit 501(c)3 organization is seeking a volunteer who is confident in statistical analysis to analyze behavioral data that is being collected for an ongoing welfare study of rhesus macaques retired from biomedical research to a monkey sanctuary. Work can be done remotely with weekly or bi-weekly check in's with the resident primatologist. Successful analysis and description of statistics would warrant individuals name in authorship title of any future publications including this work. Primary Function
Provide care for the chimpanzees and their housing areas and improve well-being and prevent disease by close observation of chimpanzee behavior and careful cleaning procedures. Most duties performed under general supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities
?Prepare and provide food to the chimpanzees
?Clean and sanitize chimpanzee housing areas, equipment, and other related areas or materials. May use cleaning equipment.
?Remove and replace bedding.
?Observe chimpanzee behavior and appearance. Report unusual behavior or injuries.
?Transport food, bedding, or supplies from storage areas to animal areas.
?Maintain records of health, behavior, cleaning, etc.
?Provide enrichment and training to chimpanzees as directed.
?May administer medications and treatment under supervision.
?May maintain stock of feed, bedding, and cleaning supplies.
?May assist in planning and implementing special projects, including educational programs.
