We would like to draw your attention to two upcoming postdoctoral fellowship application deadlines:
- The first is the Christopher W. Clark Postdoctoral Fellowship in Conservation Bioacoustics at the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab (revised deadline October 15). The selected candidate will be the inaugural recipient of this three-year fellowship. Candidates will propose innovative and independently developed bioacoustics applications in service of conservation, honoring the legacy of the fellowship’s namesake and program’s founding director, Christopher Clark. While Chris Clark primarily focused on baleen whales, scientists at the Yang Center apply bioacoustic methods for studying marine mammals, fishes, birds, primates, frogs, bats, elephants, insects, anthropogenic sounds, and more in ecosystems around the world! Yang Center staff collect and synthesize data, develop hardware and software tools, and work with partners and students around the world to facilitate the use of bioacoustics in conservation. We encourage proposals with bold, potentially transformative research potential, and especially welcome projects that leverage the tools or research developed at the Center to have an impact on biodiversity conservation (e.g., tool development, knowledge generation, implementation etc.).
In addition to salary support and annual raises, applicants can anticipate approximately $10K/year in research support, with the possibility of additional funds through collaboration with ongoing projects at the Center. In the cover letter, applicants should suggest one or more members of the Center as a potential postdoctoral advisor. This person is not required to be a direct research collaborator, but will provide administrative support, professional guidance, and a connection into the Yang Center and Lab of Ornithology. Any member of the Center can serve as a secondary or co-mentor. - The second upcoming fellowship is the Rose postdoctoral fellowship (deadline September 9). This fellowship supports postdoctoral research at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. We encourage you to learn more about this fellowship and to share the information with your colleagues and research networks. As part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics can host Rose postdoctoral fellows who are conducting research that is synergistic with the research conducted by the Yang Center, even if fellows are working on taxa other than birds.
Candidates are welcome to apply to both positions, while noting that the Yang Center Clark Fellowship is particularly focused on bioacoustics and conservation, and that the Rose Fellowship supports positions across the Lab of Ornithology, is open to topics beyond bioacoustics, and can have a focus on basic or applied research.
