Position Description:
The work and ideal of AAP is to improve, in a professional manner, the welfare of abused or neglected primates and small- to medium-sized exotic mammals from all over Europe. This is achieved by providing shelter to animals from the illegal trade, circuses, animal-testing laboratories or private individuals. For most animals we find suitable homes worldwide in reserves, zoos or in our own permanent shelter in the south of Spain.
AAP is also actively and strategically involved in animal welfare issues by influencing both Dutch and European policy- and decision-makers in this field and working together with professional groups at home and abroad. Furthermore, AAP is an international authoritative knowledge centre.
We employ about 70 paid staff and more than 100 volunteers. AAP is situated in the middle of a green area near Almere. There are few places where you can see the result of your efforts – each animal taken into our care is rehabilitated. For the Group Behaviour, Housing & Enrichment in the Cluster Rescue and Rehabilitation, we are looking for
Qualifications/Experience:
You will be directly involved in the behavioural rehabilitation process of the animals. You will advise the team leaders from the animal departments, of which one is in Spain. You are able and willing to travel to Spain on a regular basis. You will supervise animal caretakers during their education on behavioural rehabilitation courses and will teach them how to observe the animals.
You will design and write therapy plans for animals that need rehabilitation. You will analyse behavioural observation data. You will have regular discussions with other behavioural biologists, veterinarians, other staff, and team leaders of animal departments. This requires good communication skills and a self confident appearance.
Initially, it would be appreciated if the candidate is willing to work more hours per week as a replacement for a behavioural biologist going on maternity leave.
Salary/funding:
Between € 1241,- and € 1674,- gross per month for 16 our per weel
