Closing Date: 31 July 2013
The emphasis will be on attracting quality applicants rather than exact matches
for the posts listed. (Please do not be put off by the apparent emphasis
on agriculture in the official literature! This was designed to encourage those
who might not apply rather than put off zoologists / ecologists etc).
Advertised areas are Freshwater Biology, Animal Disease Epidemiology,
Wildlife/bio-veterinary science, Landscape Ecology, Biochemistry - applicants
with behavioural interests would be particularly welcome in all areas.
Our largest undergraduate scheme is zoology, which forms part of a cluster with
marine & freshwater biology, animal behaviour and ecology. We also teach
biology, biochemistry and a range of related schemes including
rural/agricultural degrees. In 2011 one of our undergraduates won the Science,
Engineering & Technology (Europe) "Best Biology Student" Award
for her honours project on social learnng in guppies.
Aberystwyth enjoys a coastal location amidst spectactular scenery in rural mid
Wales, close to a number of important national nature reserves. Our Aquarium
facilities were recently refurbished and include marine, fresh and tropical
facilities. There is also extensive University woodland, greenhouses, farms and
a variety of the latest sequencing technology (ion/proton torrent, Illumina
454, etc.).
