The Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the research and teaching excellence of the Institute of Animal Welfare Science. The Institute is composed of 6 scientists and 25 staff, working together to deliver research of the highest quality, providing the basis to improve animal welfare in practice while addressing societal concerns. We have a dual focus on basic and applied research, from novel ideas to science‐based improvements in practice, and have become a leading research group on animal welfare in Europe and internationally. Main tasks The research profile of the tenure-track Assistant Professor should strengthen one of the two internationally recognized research programmes of the Institute on 1) social behaviour and human-animal relationship, or 2) Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) related to real-time and continuous animal welfare assessment. The Assistant Professor should aim to establish internationally visible research profile, primarily financed by external funds. There are numerous opportunities for collaboration with complementary research groups within the Vetmeduni as well as with national and international institutions, Vienna being a research-intensive international hub. The tasks also include independent teaching and the provision of scientific expertise and leadership. After fulfilment of the agreed qualification goals, the contract will be of an unlimited duration as Associate Professor. Upon signing the qualification agreement, the collective bargaining minimum salary for employees at universities to the above classification is € 4,782.30 gross (14 times a year).
