Open Rank Position (PhD or Postdoc)

We are looking for a PhD or postdoc researcher to investigate call combinations in common marmosets at the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology, University of Zurich. These monkeys frequently produce combinations across a variety of contexts, some of which are also further internally structured. The consortium consists of leading scientists from traditionally separated academic domains, which allows us to harvest the diverse expertise from the humanities, social sciences, computational sciences, natural sciences and medicine towards a broadscale interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate is expected to - be interested in animal cognition/communication, linguistic theory and cognitive science - possess a solid background in statistics and data processing - collect marmoset vocalizations across diverse social contexts at the Department’s Primate Station to complement existing data sets - hold a MSc or PhD degree in a relevant discipline - be fluent in English (oral, written) The candidate for this project will be supervised by Profs. Judith Burkart and Simon Townsend (UZH) at the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology, in collaboration with additional NCCR PIs. The earliest start of the position is June 2024 (negotiable).
