The Section of Reproduction and Behavior, Department of Clinical Studies –
New Bolton Center, School of Veterinary Medicine - University of Pennsylvania
is looking to fill a postdoctoral position starting Jan 1, 2011 (or sooner if
possible), under the direction of Thomas D. Parsons, VMD, PhD. Talented individuals are being recruited to
join a research program that addresses the social behavior and welfare of
gestating sows housed in large groups.
Specific projects explore strategies to mitigate the untoward effects of
social hierarchy in group housed sows.
Work will be carried out at the recently renovated Penn Vet Swine
Teaching and Research Center that houses a 200 sow herd and provides a unique
opportunity to study gestating sows under a variety of housing scenarios. Expertise in applied ethology, experimental
design, and statistics is highly desirable.
