The
Department of Behavioural Biology in the School of Biology / Chemistry
of the University of Osnabrück, invites applications for a
Postdoctoral position in Behavioural Neuroscience
(Salary grade 13 TV-L, 100 %)
Contract
duration is initially 3 years and can be extended to up to 5 years. The
position should be filled at the earliest date possible.
Project Aims and Assignments:
We
invite applications for a postdoctoral position in behavioural
neuroscience, studying the mechanisms regulating stress reactivity and
emotionality in laboratory mice within the recently established Research
Group of Professor Dr. Chadi Touma at the University of Osnabrück.
In
the context of different biomedical approaches, our experimental
research utilising clinically relevant animal models is aiming to
elucidate neurobiological, endocrine and molecular genetic mechanisms
underlying affective disorders such as major depression. We have a
strong expertise in behavioural neuroendocrinology and seek to extend
our research into investigating the molecular underpinnings of key
endophenotypes at the genetic, epigenetic, proteomic, metabolomic and
systemic level.
Besides
a strong interest and publication record in behavioural neuroscience,
applicants should have a profound background in molecular neurobiology,
including DNA, RNA and protein biochemistry, immunocytochemistry,
histochemistry and neuroanatomy (adequate laboratory experience in
establishing and running these techniques is required). Firm knowledge
in study design, statistical analysis and experience working with
laboratory rodent models under SPF conditions is expected.
Candidates
should be highly motivated, ambitious and able to work independently.
Working as member of a team as well as commitment to teaching is
expected, including supervising graduate and undergraduate students in the lab. Successful applicants will play
an important role in the design and implementation of our biomedical
research utilising a genetic animal model of affective disorders: the
Stress Reactivity mouse lines, selectively bred for profound differences
in the responsiveness of the HPA axis.
Applicants
must have a PhD in Biology or equivalent discipline and should possess
excellent writing and communication skills as well as a strong work
ethic.
We
offer excellent working conditions in an open, international and
challenging environment at the newly established Department of
Behavioural Biology. More information about our research group can be
found at the website of the University of Osnabrück (https://www.biologie.uni-osnabrueck.de/arbeitsgruppen/verhaltensbiologie.html).
The
position includes a 3-year contract (E13 TV-L) according to the
employment rules of Lower Saxony; prolongation of the contract for up to
five years is possible.
The position is available on a full-time or part-time basis.
Osnabrück
University has been certified as a family-friendly university committed
to helping working/studying parents and careers balance their family
and work life.
The
university aspires to ensure equal opportunities for men and women and
strives to work towards a gender balance in schools or departments where
new appointments are made.
If equally qualified candidates apply, preference will be given to those with special needs.
Review
of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position
is filled. Submit (preferably by e-mail, printed documents and folders
cannot be returned) a letter of motivation including a description of
work experience and career goals, Curriculum Vitae and the names and
contact information of three academic references until October 26, 2016
to the dean of the School of Biology/Chemistry Prof. Dr. Achim Paululat (bewerbung@biologie.uni-osnabrueck.de).
For informal inquiries please contact Prof. Dr. Chadi Touma (chadi.touma@uni-osnabrueck.de or telephone: +49 541 969 3496).
