Job description
In the newly established Behavioural Ecology (BHE) Group, part of the Animal Sciences Department at Wageningen University, there is an opening for a full time (1.0 fte) research assistant to support research and education in animal behaviour. The position is initially for one year, but with prospects of becoming a permanent position.
Main tasks and responsibilities
We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible person with interest in research and education and good communication skills. The successful applicant supports research on songbirds, farm animals and companion animals as well as education in animal behaviour, behavioural ecology and animal welfare. Practical work involves actively supporting students in experiments and observing of animal behaviour. Most of the work is indoors but fieldwork can also be involved. Other tasks include management of technical equipment including computers and to assist in data analyses.
Requirements
Experience with analytical software (Excel, Matlab, Access) will be of advantage. The successful applicant can attend courses or scientific meetings to extend his/her scientific skills. Additionally he/she functions very well in a team and has good organisational and communication skills. Excellent communication skills in English are essential.
Conditions of employment
The position is available per direct, initially for a period of one year, after which the position can become permanent. Salary indication: scale 8, 2267-3028 euros (gross based on a full-time appointment) and depending on experience,

The newly established chair group in Behavioural Ecology of Wageningen University conducts fundamental as well as applied research on the behaviour of wild and captive animals. A main focus of our research is on social behaviours using songbirds in the wild, as well as poultry (farm animals) and dogs (companion animals). The chair group also provides education in various aspects of Animal Behaviour at Wageningen University.

The Department of Animal Sciences is involved in research and education related to the health and welfare of animals and people. The primary focus is on the functioning of animals, both from a curiosity perspective and in relation to the various functions animals have for people. The Department of Animal Sciences is one of five departments at Wageningen University. With these themes, the Department of Animal Sciences contributes to healthy and safe products while also focussing on animal health in sustainable systems.
