Postdoctoral Position: Behavioral Phenotyping in Working Detector Dogs

Three-year postdoctoral position now available to investigate phenotypic indicators of working performance, temperament, and cognition in explosive detection dogs. The position will be based at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia under the supervision of Drs. James Serpell and Cynthia Otto, and will include periods of fieldwork at other US locations where dogs are currently trained and evaluated.
Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD or equivalent degree in animal, and preferably canine, behavior and/or cognition. Experience with behavioral observation, event recording, coding, and analysis, and knowledge of research methods including power calculations, survey methodologies, and the collection and handling of salivary biomarkers would be desirable. A strong background in descriptive and inferential statistics, and the use of statistical software packages for quantitative multivariate analysis, such as R, SPSS, etc., would also be advantageous. Salary will be based on current NIH guidelines.
