Technical/Research Assistant Fieldwork

Courant Research Center Evolution of Social Behavior, University of Göttingen

Position Description:
The workgroup Social Evolution in Primates is part of the Courant Research Centre for the Evolution of Social Behaviour that brings together anthropologists, zoologists, and psychologists from University of Göttingen and the German Primate Center in Göttingen, Germany. The successful applicant will contribute to the project Social evolution in wild macaque monkeys at Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary, Thailand (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/field-site/153680.html) and other behavioral biology projects of the workgroup.
The workplace temporarily will be shifted to Thailand. Duties include 1) collection and management of behavioral observation data on macaques in a montane evergreen forest with difficult terrain, visibility and climate, 2) collection and management of climate data, 3) collection and preparation of feces samples for later lab analyses, 4) coordinating the work of several project members, 5) administration related to the field projects, 6) running experiments, 7) managing budgets and purchasing supplies.

Qualifications/Experience:
Successful applicants will have completed a vocational training degree as a technical assistant or an equivalent training in the natural sciences
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and data banks (e.g. Access)
Excellent knowledge of the English language
Experience with the collection of behavioral data on wild animals
Working experience abroad is also a plus

Salary/funding:
The salary is 100% of a German TV-L 9 salary grade with full social security and health benefits.

Term of Appointment:
20 months from November 1st 2012 through July 31st 2014
