Postdoc and PhD student positions in system neuroscience of action planning in freely moving animals
Positions at the postdoc and PhD level are available in a project on the cortical neurophysiology of complex action planning in freely moving monkeys.
The goal of the projects is to record and understand predictive neural activity from the cerebral cortex of monkeys freely moving in complex interactive environments and solving structured behavioral tasks. The project is core of the international research collaboration “Plan4Act: Predictive Neural Information for Proactive Actions” funded by the European Commission. The long-term vision of Plan4Act is to endow motor-impaired patients with the ability to brain-control daily-life tasks and achieve this by directly controlling ambient assisted living environments. Our Plan4Act partner labs include experts from robotics, computational neuroscience, and assistive technology engineering, creating an exciting inter-disciplinary setting with a neuroscience focus.
As part of the Center for System Neuroscience (CSN), the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (BCCN), and the Primate Cognition Campus (PC) we offer a highly stimulating and multi-disciplinary research environment with a strong background in both experimental and computational neuroscience.
PhD candidates can choose among multiple neuroscience PhD programs of the Göttingen Graduate School for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB). A degree in neuroscience, physics, biomedical engineering, biology, psychology, or related fields and a good command of English are required. Experience in programming and computational data analysis is of significant advantage.
Postdoc candidates additionally should have a strong research background and clearly visible track-record in system neuroscience with non-human primates. Programming skills are required (e.g. C++, Matlab or LabView). The ability to work independently as part of an interdisciplinary team is expected.
The positions are available immediately for a total of up to four years, with an initial duration of 2 years. Postdoc positions are full-time with a salary according to public pay-scale (TV-L 13).
