PhD studentships on cichlid communication and cognition

I am recruiting candidates to put up for an internal competition for fully funded phd studentships (https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/research/phd-scholarships) in my laboratory at Liverpool John Moores University.

One project will be looking at cognition within and across social systems in Tanganyikan cichlids in collaboration with Tyrone Lucon Xiccato at the University of Ferrara and Will Swaney at LJMU: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/does-sociality-drive-cognitive-evolution-mechanisms-and-functions-of-cognitive-control-within-and-across-social-systems-in-cichlid-fishes/?d6036p123219

The other is based on using realistic 3D animations to study communication in daffodil cichlids, in collaboration with Peter Falkingham and Will Swaney at LJMU: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/using-computer-generated-social-stimuli-to-examine-the-behavioural-hormonal-and-neural-responses-to-agonistic-signals-in-a-highly-social-fish/?p104563

Both projects are integrative, looking at both proximate mechanisms and ultimate functions. Please email me (a.r.redon@ljmu.ac.uk<mailto:a.r.redon@ljmu.ac.uk>) with any questions or to apply. Please share with any strong students looking to do a PhD.

The deadline for this initial search is Aug 31, and the final application must be made by Sept 18. UK/EU citizens only.
