A
graduate
student
position
is
available
to
explore
piglet
gas
anesthesia
for
piglet
processing.
The
student
will
gain
skills
in
interdisciplinary
research
and
experimental
design,
including
cognitive
testing,
behavior
and
biochemical
indicators
of
pain
and
distress,
and
production
outcomes.
The
ideal
candidate
is
interested
in
applied
ethology,
animal
welfare
and
livestock
production,
together
with
skills
in
organization,
communication
and
working
in
a
team/group
environment.
Livestock
experience
is
an
asset,
but
is
not
required.
The
project
supported
by
the
National
Pork
Board
and
USDA,
with
secured
funding
for
3
years.
Expected
start
date
is
Spring
(January)
or
Summer
(May)
2013.
Graduate
students
may
enroll
in
Biomedical
Sciences
(Veterinary
Physiology),
Neuroscience
or
Sustainable
Agriculture
programs.
Applicants
must
have
a
GRE
score
(MCAT
can
be
substituted),
but
GRE
Subject
Exams
are
not
required.
All
international
applicants
must
have
a
TOEFL
or
IELTS
score,
and
the
minimum
score
requirements
are
as
follows:
iBT
94,
CBT
240,
PBT
590,
and
IELTS
6.5.
Also,
Iowa
State
University
requires
that
all
graduate
students
have
a
minimum
GPA
equivalent
to
a
3.0/4.0.
