Position Description:
Located in "The Garden of Ireland" Rathdrum, county Wicklow is Ireland's first and ONLY monkey sanctuary for unwanted primates. This sanctuary has no connection with any other non-primate sanctuary in Ireland!
We are home to over 25 primates including capuchins, Japanese macaques, Hamadryas baboons and guenons.
There are also parrots, ostrich, emus, polecats, dogs, cats, horses, geese, ducks and swans that live here at the sanctuary. We are also an ecological hotspot for Irish wildlife.
We have an ongoing need for 3-6 month live-in volunteers.
Volunteers assist with day-to-day operations at the sanctuary. Tasks include helping with primate feeding, feeding other sanctuary animals, assisting vet team if needed, enclosure cleaning and care, acquiring food and supplies in town, maintaining site facilities and equipment, painting and assisting with other manual tasks. Volunteers pitch in wherever needed most. Volunteers must have patience (daily tasks can be repetitious), be willing to assist with any situation that arises, work outdoors in all weathers and have an enthusiastic, optimistic spirit.

Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimum 25 years old
- Paid work experience
- Experience working with animals, experience with primates is an advantage
- English speaking preferred but non-essential
- Good general health and physical stamina
- Able to adapt easily to changing tasks/ schedules and to basic living conditions with a small group in an isolated setting
PREFER:
- University degree
- Prior experience working with primates
- Work experience as part of a group or project team
- Building, welding, mechanical or veternary skills

Salary/funding:
This is an unpaid position although pocket money is provided to cover sanctuary expenses (e.g wellys, rain gear, work clothes etc.). No travel expenses, research grants or stipends provided.
Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Lodging and vegetarian food are provided at the site. Please be willing to share accomodation with any other volunteers. Remember that this is a sanctuary for the animals first and foremost, please don't expect 5 star treatment :)
