Chimpanzee Care Team Member Needed!

Freedom for Great Apes is a small non-profit sanctuary designed to provide a safe haven and forever home for chimps rescued from the entertainment and pet industries. FGA is dedicated to the long term physical, social and psychological well-being of chimpanzees in captivity.
Position:
Our hardworking caregivers provide excellent care to 6 chimpanzees with safety and reliability. This position reports to the Operations Manager and works with high integrity as part of a diverse and creative team. This is a labor intensive, physically demanding job with great experiential rewards and lots of laughs!
Job Duties:
● Cleans and disinfects indoor and outdoor enclosures daily.
● Prepares and serves meals; administers vitamins and medications as directed.
● Safely transfers chimpanzees to and from various areas within the facility and unlocks enclosures for regular cleaning and maintenance.
● Launders bedding and toys.
● Develops, constructs, and prepares daily enrichment.
● Maintains work areas, common areas and equipment; clean and functional.
● Receives, examines, sorts and rotates produce often for freshness.
● Records and evaluates chimps' physical, social, and psychological wellness and needs.
● Maintains a strong connection to the needs of the team, the sanctuary and the community.
● Contributes to outreach and educational programs.
● Assists with facility maintenance projects, infrastructure repair and upkeep.
● Keeps accurate and timely records.
● Abides by established safety protocols at all times; strictly follows all COVID-19 safety protocols.
● Maintains an annual tuberculosis test and seasonal influenza vaccine schedule.
● Other duties as assigned..
Qualifications:
● Positive attitude.
● Kind, patient animal care or husbandry experience.
● Hard working, self starting work ethic and good customer service.
● Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
● Able to perform strenuous/manual labor; able to lift 50lbs.
● Able to engage in structure climbing and aerial tunnel cleaning and maintenance.
● Be willing and able to follow all safety policies and protocols.
● Strong communication and listening skills.
● Able to follow detailed instructions, work independently and proactively.
● Carpentry, welding and maintenance skills would be amazing!
● Valid driver’s licenses.
Hours/Days:
Full-time position (40 hours a week); days of the week may vary. Weekend shifts, holiday shifts and evening hours required; schedule subject to change.
