Postdoctoral
position in the neural basis of behavior in simple
organisms, University of
California San Francisco
The
Foundations of Cognition Laboratory at UCSF (focolab.org), headed by
principal investigator Saul
Kato, seeks motivated scientists for a minimum 2 year funded
postdoctoral
position.
Our
lab studies simple model organisms such as the worm C.
elegans in the search for
fundamental principles of cognitive brain function and
dysfunction. We seek to
formulate and test theories of neural dynamics, computation,
and decision
making, and goal-driven behavior. We employ and develop a
variety of
cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches.
We
are interested in researchers who have worked with C.
elegans or other
microorgansims, and who have expertise in any of the
following wet lab
experimental skills: organismal biology, molecular and cell
biology, genomic
engineering including CRISPR, live microscopy methods
including calcium imaging
and optogenetics, microfluidics, cell culture, and
behavioral assays. We
have a number of very exciting projects underway in the lab
and we also
encourage new projects proposed by new members of the lab.
The
selected candidate must possess or be in anticipation of
receiving a PhD degree
in Neuroscience, Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering,
Electrical Engineering,
Genetics, Physics or a related field.
Please
send your CV, cover letter, and 3 references to saul.kato@ucsf.edu.
