PhD Candidate (m/f) in Animal Behaviour
The research group of Dr. DidoneFrigerioat the Core Facility KLF (Konrad Lorenz Forschungsstelle) for Behaviourand Cognition has funding available for a three year PhD position in Animal Behaviour. The PhD candidate will be part of a new working group applying citizen science to behaviouralresearch in close collaboration with the long-term partner of the KLF, the Cumberland Wildpark. The candidate should develop his/her own project using three avian model species (greylaggeese, ravens, northern bald ibises) within this framework.
The 3-year PhD position is granted for 20 hours/week and includes free accommodation at the Konrad Lorenz Research Station at Grünau(about 230 km west of Vienna).
The PhD candidate will be embedded in the newly founded Vienna Doctoral School (VDS) for Cognition, Behaviourand Neuroscience (CoBeNe) at the University of Vienna. The main goal of VDS CoBeNeis quality assurance in PhD training and education. In addition the organization stands for promotion of inter-and trans-disciplinary knowledge exchange.
Profile
• Above average masters degree in either zoology, psychology, engineering, or computer science
• Proficient knowledge of English
• Excellent academic standing
• Research experience in analysis of animal behaviour
• Strong computational skills
• Genuine interest in studying behaviourunder field-like conditions
• Outstanding social competence, ability to work in a team
Further desirable qualifications
• Publications in international, peer-reviewed journals
• Previous experience with citizen science related issues
• Previous experience in working in a research team
• Knowledge of German is beneficial
