A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Prather in the Neuroscience Program and Department of Zoology and Physiologyat the University of Wyoming. This position is funded through an NSF CAREER Award to study the sensorimotor mechanisms through which female songbirds assign subjective value to male songs and use that information to choose their mate. We are seeking a talented and strongly self-motivated Ph.D. to join us in using electrophysiological, optogenetic, behavioral, immunohistological and neuroendocrine techniques to address our research questions. Training canbe provided in each of these approaches, but candidates with a background and expertise in electrophysiological characterization of neural circuits are strongly preferred. Ease in working together with graduate and undergraduate students is also desired. The focus of this fellowship will be electrophysiological characterization and optogenetic manipulation of neurons implicated in song perception and behavioral indicators ofmate choice, and this position offers the opportunity to develop and pursue independent research projects. The position is scheduled to begin in February 2018, but that start date can be earlier or later for outstanding candidates. Two years of competitive salary, benefits and full experimental support are available, with the opportunityfor additional support for very productive individuals.
