Volunteer Research Assistant on Lizards in the Spanish Pyrenees
We
are seeking a motivated volunteer research assistant to conduct
behavioral research in summer 2016 in Jaca (Spanish Pyrenees). The
project will take place at the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology (IPE, CSIC)
in Jaca, Spain and will involve both field and laboratory work.
The
starting date of the project is early June and it will last until
mid-August. During this time you will conduct behavioral experiments on
the common lizard, Zootoca vivipara. The project includes
captures in natural populations, measurements, running behavioral
experiments and regular inspection of lizards in the laboratory. The
project could also involve statistical analyses and writing of a
manuscript for a potential publication.
We
are looking for a biology graduate student, preferentially with a MSc,
who wants to gain research experience in Behavioral Ecology. Candidates
should have good organizational skills, be independent, have a good work
ethic and have a sincere and active interest in the project. You must
be comfortable with handling reptiles and like doing field work. Fluency
in English is required and Spanish language skills are useful, but this
is not essential.
In
summer, Jaca is a vibrant touristic city at the base of the Spanish
Pyrenees, close to the Pyrenees French national park. We will offer the
possibility of accommodation in a shared house with other members of the
laboratory in Jaca.
Please
send your application including your CV and a short letter outlining
your motivation (max. 1 A4 page) to Dr. Joshka Kaufmann (Joshka.Kaufmann@unil.ch).
