Position Announcement: Postdoctoral Scholar
A research position
at the rank of Post-doctoral Scholar is available in the Department of Animal
Science, Iowa State University in the area of Animal Breeding and Genetics /
Animal Science with particular emphasis on gilt development and sow lifetime
productivity.
The successful candidate must (a) have a Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics or Animal Science with an expertise in statistical design and data analysis, (b) be proficient in speaking and writing English and (c) have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

The candidate
should be proficient, or be able to quickly learn computer software such as
SAS, R, Excel, Word and other standard software packages as needed. The
individual will be expected to perform data analysis, present research results
at conferences, train undergraduate students, help with grant writing and write
manuscripts for publication. The successful candidate must demonstrate the capacity
for integrative- and critical scientific thinking, excellent organizational
skills, ability to multitask, and have a passion for science.
The successful
candidate will primarily be responsible for assembling; collating and analyzing
data from a long-term study examining sow lifetime productivity. The study will
take place in commercial facilities and involve collaboration among several
universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the National
Pork Board. It is expected that the individual would be responsible for the
initial draft of reports regarding this project, and for the initial draft of
the primary manuscript(s).
Salary is
$45,000 per annum and the contract is written for 1 year with the possibility
of renewal for an additional year, pending performance and funding
availability. Post doctorate and Pre doctorate Associates are eligible for
medical, pharmacy, vision and dental coverage. Specific information regarding
