Postdoctoral position available (Jonathan Prather's lab at the University of Wyoming)

Postdoctoral Fellowship – Neurobiology of the Link Between Sensory Perception and Motor Activation
A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Prather in the Neuroscience Program and the Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming. This position is funded through an NSF CAREER Award to study the neural mechanisms through which female songbirds evaluate the quality of male song and use that information to choose their mate. We are seeking a talented and strongly self-motivated Ph.D. to join us in using optogenetic, behavioral, immunohistological, neuroendocrine and electrophysiological techniques to address our research questions. Training can be provided in each of these approaches, but candidates with a background and expertise in electrophysiological characterization of neural circuits are strongly preferred. Ease in working together with graduate and undergraduate students is also desired.
The focus of this fellowship will be electrophysiological characterization and optogenetic manipulation of neurons implicated in song perception and behavioral indicators of mate choice, and this position offers the opportunity to develop and pursue independent research projects. The position is scheduled to begin in January 2018, but that start date can be earlier or later for outstanding candidates. 2.5 years of competitive salary, benefits and full experimental support are available, with the opportunity for additional support for very productive individuals.
To apply for this position, please submit a PDF containing: 1) a cover letter describing your research interests, goals and relevant experience, 2) your CV, and 3) contact information for three or more references. Please submit that information to Dr. Jonathan Prather (Jonathan.Prather@uwyo.edu). Informal inquiries to the same email address are welcome. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
